Walmart Experimenting With Selling Appliances In U.S. Stores

Posted on | May 23, 2011 | Comments Off

In an attempt to boost sales, Walmart is testing in some Texas stores selling appliances such as refrigerators.   They will have units on the floor in a range of pricing points and have trained employees on the appliances.  Walmart did experiment with appliance sales back in 2000, but cut the program short.

This new program will put Walmart in competition with retailers like Home Depot, Lowes and Best Buy who have been selling appliances for some time.

This is an effort to build US comp store sales which have been sagging in recent years.  As a number of analysts focus on this key figure as a major metric of Walmart’s performance, if they can turn this number around and bring positive same store sales growth, the stock will get a major boost.  I believe positive same store sales growth in US stores could take the stock over $60 per share by itself.

We’ll continue to watch this development and update you as necessary.
